Sister, Sister

You may be as different as the Sun and the Moon, But the same blood flows through both your hearts. You need her, as she needs you.

My First Roommate

There is no rule book written for how to handle a Global Pandemic, however what I have been trying to do is to take it ONE DAY AT A TIME. Truly this practice alone is very challenging but can help alleviate anxious feelings – as anxiety is wanting to control the unknown and well HELLLOOO we couldn’t be more in the “unknown” then we are NOW!

Welcome to the crazy, crazy ride known as LIFE. Now more than ever we are seeing how unpredictable it is and now more than ever we are missing our loved ones greatly and with much more free time we almost have no choice but to reflect on our life thus far and that includes all of the relationships in it!

For me- I have been using this time to reflect on individual relationships and with that naturally I have been able to reflect on what they have taught me throughout life.

For this week instead of rattling off what I have learned thus far in life, through experience, I wanted to instead dedicate this post to my Sister Greta; MY Best Friend, Trusted Advisor, Co- Crisis Life Manager(parents as well)- thanks for the life lessons and the happiest of all birthdays to my Irish girl!!

Denim and Ed Hardy Theme or Bust…

Almost a year to the date exactly, I was knee deep preparing final touches for my sister Greta’s “Denim and Ed Hardy” themed birthday party. Time’s a changing- am I right?!!??!

If you just paused to re-read the theme- yes you are correct– “Denim and Ed Hardy” – think old school Paris Hilton trucker hat/Simple Life days mixed with a young Britney and Justin in matching denim outfits- ICONIC!!!!!

Oh the best part- the theme was completely Greta’s idea- not mine- I swear!! I was actually so jealous when she told me the theme, that very day I decided I would be having a Bravo Themed Birthday party in December- and Greta says I’m competitive LOL ……

Here’s some life lessons I learned from my Sissy, the birthday Queen (for today, then ill take the title back)

Life Lessons

Just Because the Path has changed Doesn’t Mean The Goal Can’t Be Achieved:

    • For as long as I can remember I always knew your goal was to move to Europe, you had communicated this over the years. While sure maybe you planned to move there immediately following college- but instead had a few years post college working and living in NYC, you still ultimately found a way to the goal and took the steps to begin your life in Europe!
    •  Ultimately, you showed me it doesn’t matter how you get there, the path can change, but as long as you keep true to your goals there is always a way. FEARLESS ENERGY!

Finding the Beauty in Uniqueness:

    • In a world where we are all always trying to “fit in” you more than anyone have shown me the courage to truly just embrace your own “uniqueness”. Whether it’s individual hobbies you have always enjoyed even when it wasn’t “cool” such as reading (Lol- is reading a fun hobby now?!) Or your UNIQUE Sense of Style (minus your Birkenstock Phase) and HELLOOO PINK HAIR VIBES. Everything you WEAR or Everything you DO you do it so uniquely, it’s truly inspiring.
    • YOU WERE BORN TO STAND OUT!

Boundaries, Boundaries, Boundaries

    • Remember the bliss of sharing a room for roughly your first 16 years of life, to only share a bed for 6 months again in adulthood when you first moved to NYC? People ask how did we did it, Simply- BOUNDARIES!And By boundaries I mean the boundaries you put in place with me LOL. All Kidding aside, I have always admired your ability to place boundaries in your life with people in order to maintain your own inner peace and happiness.
    • Sure the no gossiping or talking before bed – sure at the time I didn’t understand but now I see you were just putting yourself into a peaceful mindset in order to be able to sleep peacefully.SELF CARE AND BOUNDARIES BABY!

You Don’t Have to Watch Bravo! For me to Like You(Showing up for What Matters is what counts!)

    • I know this is your birthday tribute- but remember when you were the first to arrive to my “Bravo Themed Bday Party” and you had no idea what any of the decorations meant, but acted excited anyways?! Thank you for always showing me the importance of just showing up and being happy for others- even if it’s not your “thing”. To embrace what is important to your family/friends is so so important!! SHOW UP And SUPPORT!
    • Also, Thanks for letting me play like 10 Berkshire Christmas” RHONY” episodes for you to prepare you for the party, and thanks for wearing a wig. It’s okay you don’t like Bravo- even though you would be cooler if you did!!!

Patience is a Virtue

    • Not to brag, but I do think you have me to thank for this BUT (JKJK) You truly have taught me the art of “patience” in life.
    • Whether it’s a late -night text back to me saying “wait to post your picture until the morning,” or the little moments, where I have cracked and wanted to give up- feeling like anything I was doing wasn’t coming to fruition- in those moments you celebrated the extremely SMALL wins (like very very small wins- proudly with me!) Make the SMALL MOMENTS COUNT!

Perspective and Projections

    •  As someone who is an anxiety ridden human and easily in a tizzy(AHHH)- you have taught me the valuable art of walking away from a situation in order to be able to gain some perspective  and to calm myself down so I wouldn’t regret my actions or words. Nothing good comes out of ANGER, PUSH THE PAUSE BUTTON!
    • You have been an amazing sound -board and truly solidified “its not about you, it’s about them” in my head when referencing negativity from others- I mean PROJECTION PROJECTION PROJECTION!!!

Opposites Attract

    • Thanks for not liking attention, so I get more!! (JUST KIDDING)
    • Thanks for being the fire to my ice or the sweatshirt/sweatpants to my matching  pajama sets. Thanks for being the calm to my storm and vice versa.
    • I learned that you can be best friends with someone completely different from you, and for that I will always be grateful!
